Meet the Presenter …

Michael Smith is the executive editor of the Spartanburg (S.C.) Herald-Journal, as well as three
North Carolina newspapers — the Gaston Gazette, Hendersonville Times-News and Shelby Star. He’s a two-time Best of GateHouse Editorial Writer of the Year, edging out writers from larger papers like the Columbus Dispatch and Providence Journal for the honor. Independent judges in the 2016 Best of GateHouse contest said this of his writing: “Michael Smith’s editorials cast clear moral purpose in strong language.”
